Beauty Ingredient: Aloe Vera (Aloe Barbadensis)

      The reason we use skincare products is to give our skin nutrition and improve the condition. So, it is extremely important to know what we put onto our skin. I like to study about skincare ingredients to fully understand what kind of product suits me. In this post, I am going to talk about the trustworthy Aloe Vera.

      The reason I say Aloe Vera is trustworthy is because it is one of the oldest remedies throughout the world. People from China and Egypt have been using Aloe Vera for it's cosmetic and health benefits. It is also well known as Cleopatra's beauty secret! 

      Aloe comes in many different species, and Aloe Vera refers to the most beneficial kind, Aloe Barbadensis. It plants in dry soil and windy weather, mostly found in the middle and south America, there are also some in the east and south Africa. The fleshy sharp leaves with clear gel inside is what we need. 

      The leaves stores water and nutrition for the plant to survive in the desert. So, the clear gel is very useful to hydrate the skin. It also helps soothe irritation and reduce redness, perfect for people with sensitive skin and after sunburn. Aloe Vera can work as a medicine as well, it can help stop bleeding and heal the wound faster. But, it only works if you are using a high portion of Aloe Vera.

      The easiest way is to check the portion is to see the ingredients on the back. The one that comes first is always the highest portion, if the Aloe comes much later, it may not work at all. Also, note the difference between powder and gel. Most of the products in the market use dry powder then add water to it, which won't be as beneficial as fresh juice. Another way to check is to see if your gel is green, cooling or scented? The real Aloe Vera gel is clear, if not it should be yellowish. And, the cooling effect should be natural and mild. If it is super cooling, it probably adds mint or alcohol. Which will be dangerous to use on skin that is already irritated.
